The Event
We loved catering for the Carpenters Fellowship annual camping gathering. This three-day event was held at the beautiful Chiltern Open Air Museum in Chalfont St. Peter. The museum is a charity that rescues threatened historic buildings, preserving them in a traditional Chilterns landscape. It’s well worth a visit if you’re local – Chiltern Open Air Museum (coam.org.uk)
We set up our kitchen in a tent in one of the fields, something we’re surprisingly used to! We donned our raincoats and walked across the field to collect water before getting started on feeding the 180 hungry campers.
Throughout the weekend, there were many events and activities, including a Viking battle reenactment, chainsaw demonstrations, specialist speakers, and axe throwing. We even entered the axe-throwing competition as the catering team. While we didn’t win, we had a lot of fun participating!
The Food
The customer requested “simple and wholesome food” for breakfast, lunch, and dinner over the three days. We provided a selection of cereals, fruits, and yogurts, along with bacon and sausage baps throughout the morning. For lunch, we offered filled baguettes or homemade soup accompanied by a selection of crisps and homemade cakes.
For dinner, we served the following over the three days: lasagna with garlic bread and salad, Turkish chicken kebabs with flatbreads and tabbouleh, and chilli con carne with rice, tortillas, and salsa.
