We understand the challenge of catering to individuals with special dietary requirements. Whether it’s vegan, gluten-free, or other specific needs, it can sometimes feel like there’s no recipe out there that meets all the necessary criteria. We’ve all been there – flicking through countless cookbooks or browsing online, only to feel overwhelmed by the endless restrictions. Then, just when you think you’ve found the perfect recipe, you spend hours baking it, only for it to turn out less than satisfactory.
That’s why we’re excited to share our non-allergen-containing flapjacks – a recipe that contains none of the 12 major allergens, so you can feel confident serving them to anyone with dietary restrictions. Not only are they incredibly easy to make, but they always come out perfectly – golden and delicious every time. Plus, they’re versatile! You can mix in a variety of fillings to suit different tastes, from chocolate chips and dried fruits to seeds or even nuts (as long as they’re safe for your guests).
So, if you’re struggling to find something that works for the person who seems like they can’t eat anything, this recipe might just be the solution you’ve been looking for. We hope it makes your baking experience a little easier and a lot more enjoyable!
Non-Allergen Containing Flapjacks (Makes 12 Generous Slices)
Ingredients:
- 175g vegan butter (we prefer Flora Plant Butter, but any hard block vegan butter will work)
- 175g golden syrup
- 175g soft brown sugar
- 350g gluten-free oats (some oats contain traces of gluten, so look for a packet that states “gluten-free”)
- Any additional toppings, such as chocolate chips, sultanas, or seeds (ensure you check the ingredients as they might introduce allergens)
Method:
- In a small saucepan, gently melt the butter, sugar, and syrup until combined and the sugar is dissolved. Do not allow it to boil.
- Stir in the oats and any other toppings.
- Press the mixture into a lined tray. Dampening your fingers will help stop the mixture from sticking.
- Bake at 160°C for 30 minutes. The edges should turn golden, and the centre should still have a slight wobble.
